RRSP contribution amounts carry forward if not used, and have done so since 1991. Any amounts you earned prior to leaving Canada should still be there. Check with the Canada Revenue Agency to determine how much room you have. If your wife has RRSP room and you do not, you may contribute to a spousal account in your name so that she gets the deduction but it is condidered to be your RRSP account. There are many more rules about this so I suggest you call a local accountant that knows something about dealing with international issues. This is likely to mean one of the major firms, such as PricewaterhouseCoopers but there may be specialists in your area among the smaller firms.
